County board members are prohibited from holding other offices during their term unless they first resign from the county board before taking the oath of office for the other position.

County board members may hold the following offices without resigning: chairman of the county board, regional planning commission member, alderman or trustee in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 residents located in counties with fewer than 50,000 residents, or forest preserve district trustee.

County board members may serve on County Extension Boards, Emergency Telephone System Boards, and property tax boards of review without restriction.

Elected county officials may hold elected office in other local government units as long as there is no contractual relationship between the county and the other unit of government.

Any prohibited appointment or election to another office is void.
