Amends the Local Governmental Employees Political Rights Act to include police officers and Sheriff's deputies alongside firefighters in political participation protections.

Allows members of police departments, Sheriff's departments, fire departments, and fire protection districts to be candidates for or appointed to any public office.

Permits off-duty members not in uniform to solicit votes, campaign funds, and challenge voters for public office.

Requires employers to grant unpaid leave of absence to firefighters, police officers, or Sheriff's deputies elected to the Illinois General Assembly during their term of office.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
