Locksmiths cannot begin work on locks costing over $100 without first providing consumers a written price estimate or price limit that cannot exceed the quoted amount by more than 10% without written consent.

Locksmiths must disclose their license number and legal business name on all written price estimates or limits; if employed by an agency, must also disclose the agency's legal name, address, and license number along with the employee's credentials.

If unforeseen circumstances make the initial price estimate insufficient, the locksmith must obtain written consumer consent before performing additional work.

Locksmiths must retain original copies of all written price estimates or limits for 2 years.

Violations of these requirements constitute unlawful practices under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.
