HB3344 Summary

• Employees of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District who first enter service on or after January 1, 2012 become eligible for ordinary disability benefits on the 31st day of disability, rather than requiring exhaustion of sick leave.

• For employees entering service after the effective date of this act, refunds of employee contributions (excluding cost-of-living increase contributions but including interest) shall be paid to beneficiaries after the employee's and spouse's deaths, in an amount equal to contributions minus annuity payments already made.

• If surviving children are eligible for child annuity benefits under Section 13-308, refund payments to other beneficiaries are delayed until the youngest eligible child reaches age 23.

• Disability benefit payments are changed to be made monthly effective January 1, 2012, rather than at intervals of not more than 30 days.

• The State Mandates Act is amended to require implementation of these provisions without state reimbursement to local entities.
