IL HB3354

Amends Section 24-1.1 of the Criminal Code of 1961 regarding unlawful possession of weapons by felons.

Establishes mandatory prison sentences for felons not confined to penal institutions who unlawfully possess weapons: Class 3 felony (2-10 years for first offense), Class 2 felony (3-14 years for second or subsequent offense).

Creates enhanced penalties for felons with prior convictions for forcible felonies, Article 24 violations, firearm-related offenses, stalking, or drug felonies: Class 2 felony (3-14 years minimum).

Requires mandatory sentences (3-14 years) for individuals on parole or mandatory supervised release who violate the weapons prohibition.

Designates possession of a machine gun as a Class X felony, and increases penalties for violations while wearing body armor to Class X felony (10-40 years imprisonment).
