School boards may discontinue instructional mandates in the School Code by publicly adopted resolution if the school district does not receive separate State appropriation or reimbursement to extend the school day or year.

"Instructional mandate" is defined as any State law requiring school districts to devote time to instruction in a subject or course.

School boards cannot discontinue requirements in Sections 27-5, 27-6, 27-7, 27-22, and 27-24 through 27-24.8 of the School Code regardless of funding status.

School districts must provide students with requested information about any instructional mandates that have been discontinued under this Section.

The State Board of Education may adopt rules necessary to implement this Section, effective immediately upon passage.
