• Increases mathematics requirement from 3 to 4 years for students entering 9th grade in 2012-2013 school year or later, with one year required to be Algebra II or its verified technical equivalent.

• Increases science requirement from 2 to 3 years for the same cohort, with one year required to be laboratory science.

• Maintains existing requirements for 4 years of language arts, 2 years of writing-intensive courses, 2 years of social studies, and 1 year of arts/music/foreign language/vocational education.

• Exempts students with disabilities whose course of study is determined by an individualized education program (IEP) from the new requirements.

• Applies only to students entering 9th grade in 2012-2013 school year or later; does not affect students entering in 2011-2012 or prior school years.
