IL HB3870

Amends the Illinois Pension Code Section 16-106 regarding service credit for teachers in the Teachers' Retirement System.

Requires teachers employed by statewide or national teacher organizations who have not previously exercised rights to establish service credit for similar prior employment must pay all required contributions to the system on or before the effective date of this amendatory act.

Establishes that teachers may claim service credit for similar employment prior to becoming certified if they were certified by the effective date of the 94th General Assembly, applied within 6 months, and paid contributions with 8.5% annual compounding.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
