IL HB4026

Amends Section 3.1-30-21 of the Illinois Municipal Code regarding part-time police officers.

Restricts part-time police officers from supervising or directing full-time police officers in municipalities with a population exceeding 1,500 inhabitants (previously prohibited under any circumstances).

Maintains requirements that municipalities employing part-time officers establish hiring standards by ordinance and submit them to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.

Preserves existing prohibitions on using part-time officers as permanent replacements for full-time officers and requires uncertified part-time officers hired after January 1, 1996 to be directly supervised.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
