HB4108 Summary

• Employees of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District who first enter service on or after January 1, 2013 and become disabled are entitled to ordinary disability benefits starting on the 31st day of disability for the remainder of that disability.

• Removes the requirement that employees entering service after January 1, 2013 exhaust all sick leave before receiving ordinary disability benefits (unlike employees who entered service between June 13, 1997 and December 31, 2012).

• For employees entering service on or after January 1, 2013, refunds of employee contributions (including interest to date of withdrawal) must be paid to survivors after the employee and spouse's deaths, calculated as the excess of contributions over amounts paid as retirement or annuities.

• Establishes that refunds to surviving children of employees hired after January 1, 2013 cannot be paid until the youngest eligible child reaches age 23.
