HB4467 Summary

• Allows dental hygienists to perform services without prior dentist examination if employed by health care facilities, programs, or nonprofit organizations, provided the hygienist has 2,400 hours of practice in the past 18 months or 3,000 hours career total with minimum 200 hours in the past 3 years.

• Requires dental hygienists performing independent services to have a written collaborative agreement with a licensed dentist, maintain current CPR certification, and complete courses in infection control and medical emergencies.

• Limits licensed dentists to collaborative agreements with no more than 2 dental hygienists unless otherwise authorized by the Board.

• Authorizes dental hygienists under collaborative agreements to perform specific services including oral health screening, charting, deposit removal, fluoride application, sealants, radiographs, and scaling and root planing.

• Requires collaborative agreements to include medical protocols, practice standards, patient consent forms, sealant procedures, dental record maintenance, annual review, and must be made available to the Board upon request.
