County clerk shall abate a percentage of property taxes on parcels owned and used exclusively as a home by a disabled veteran, or the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse of the veteran.

The abatement percentage equals the veteran's disability percentage as certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Disabled veteran" is defined as a person honorably discharged with a service-connected disability certified by any branch of the United States Armed Forces.

"Veteran" includes Illinois residents who served on active duty or state active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, Illinois National Guard, or U.S. Reserve Forces.

Applies to taxes levied in the 2012 taxable year and thereafter, effective immediately upon becoming law.
