HB5541 Summary

• Increases the monthly wireless carrier surcharge from $0.73 to $1.00 per CMRS connection, effective January 1, 2013.

• Requires the State Treasurer to deposit $0.80 per surcharge into the Wireless Service Emergency Fund for distribution to 9-1-1 authorities and $0.18 per surcharge into the NG9-1-1 Service Equalization Trust Fund, with up to 1% of collected amounts available for administrative costs.

• Changes the penalty for delinquent reports from 1/2¢ per subscriber to $0.1 per subscriber, with penalties deposited into the NG9-1-1 Service Equalization Trust Fund.

• Defines "Trust Fund" as the NG9-1-1 Service Equalization Trust Fund and requires wireless carriers to share subscriber data with the Illinois Next Generation 9-1-1 Network.

• Extends the Act's repeal date from April 1, 2013 to January 1, 2018.
