IL HB5693

Adds new subsection (q) to Section 14-3 of the Criminal Code exempting from eavesdropping violations the recording of a peace officer performing a public duty in a public place and speaking at a volume audible to the unassisted human ear.

Defines "public place" as any place to which the public has access, including streets, sidewalks, parks, highways (including inside motor vehicles), and common areas of public and private facilities and buildings.

Allows citizens to legally record police officers engaged in their official duties in public without violating Illinois eavesdropping laws.
