• Extends the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Licensing Code sunset date from January 1, 2013 to January 1, 2023, allowing the regulatory framework to continue for an additional 10 years.

• Requires transportation of deceased remains donated under the Illinois Anatomical Gift Act to be under immediate direct supervision of a licensed funeral director; allows out-of-state licensed professionals to transport donated remains across state lines.

• Eliminates continuing education exemptions for funeral directors with 40+ years of practice after January 1, 2016; permits limited exemptions for those with advanced age or health conditions.

• Allows the Department to issue funeral director and embalmer licenses by endorsement (without examination) to applicants licensed in other jurisdictions with substantially equal requirements and good standing.

• Creates new provisions for temporary license suspension without hearing when public interest requires emergency action, confidentiality of investigation records, and restrictions on unlicensed funeral home owners from aiding unlicensed practice.
