HB5779 Summary

• Amends the Property Tax Code to allow county boards to remove appointed board of review members determined to lack proper qualifications in property appraisal and tax administration experience.

• In township-organized counties with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants, county board may remove unqualified board of review members by majority vote and appoint a successor to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.

• In non-township counties with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants, board of county commissioners may remove appointed board of review members who fail to meet examination requirements by majority vote, with successors appointed promptly.

• Applies to counties without elected boards of review under Section 6-35.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
