Beginning with the 2013 registration year, municipally-owned vehicles operated by police departments are exempt from fees when transferring registration plates from one vehicle to another vehicle.

Municipal police departments must report any registration plate transfers to the Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State shall adopt rules to implement the registration plate transfer exemption for municipal police vehicles.

This amendment applies to vehicles that have been issued registration plates under the existing provisions for municipally-owned police department vehicles.
