Appropriates $12,500,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the State Board of Education for the textbook block grant program.

Provides secular textbooks free of charge to any student enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade at public schools or State-recognized nonpublic schools.

Program serves 2.1 million school children and 164,000 educators throughout Illinois.

For many school districts, serves as their sole source of funding for instructional materials and helps safeguard against increases in property and local taxes.

Effective July 1, 2012.
