Creates the Truancy in Chicago Public Schools Task Force to address high absenteeism rates affecting nearly 32,000 K-8 students in Chicago School District 299 during the 2010-2011 school year.

Task force membership includes 26 positions representing state agencies, local government, education officials, community organizations, teachers, parents, students, and public members appointed by various state and local leaders.

Task force shall examine current truancy policies, identify strategies to reduce absenteeism, promote professional development for school personnel, and support community-based efforts to encourage student attendance and positive behaviors.

Task force must hold public hearings in Chicago and submit findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by December 31, 2013.

State Board of Education shall provide staff and administrative support; task force members receive travel expense reimbursement from State Board of Education appropriations.
