Public Act 96-1167 (Illinois Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act) grants pedestrians with disabilities equal access rights to streets, sidewalks, highways, and walkways.

Vehicle operators must stop at least 10 feet away from pedestrians with disabilities who use mobility devices, service animals, or white canes, and are liable for damages if they fail to take necessary precautions.

Denying or interfering with rights under the Act constitutes a Class A misdemeanor.

House calls on local and state law enforcement agencies to educate officers to enforce the Illinois Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act to the best of their ability.

Resolution directs that a copy be sent to the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.
