Acknowledges that diabetic peripheral neuropathy accounts for more diabetes-related hospitalizations than any other complication and interferes with daily activities and mobility for affected patients

Calls for public awareness efforts to inform people about diabetes dangers, warning signs of neuropathy, and steps to delay onset or slow progression of the condition

Recommends that patients with diabetes be screened for diabetic peripheral neuropathy at diagnosis and at least annually per American Diabetes Association guidelines
