Illinois has 11 operating nuclear power reactors and more radioactive spent fuel than any other state in the nation.

Urges the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to require transfer of radioactive spent fuel from storage pools to dry casks as soon as possible after 5 years of cooling.

Requests the NRC expand emergency planning protection beyond the current arbitrary 10-mile zone to include everyone at significant risk from a severe accident.

Calls on the NRC to extend regulations to include prevention and mitigation of severe accidents and improve protection against terrorist attacks on nuclear power plants.

Directs the House clerk to send copies of the resolution to all 5 NRC Commissioners, the Illinois Governor, Illinois Congressional Delegation, and the CEO of Exelon (which owns all Illinois nuclear plants).
