The Police Training Institute (PTI) at the University of Illinois, established in 1955, has trained 65% of police officers outside Chicago and serves all 102 counties in Illinois.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board (ILETSB), created in 1965, lacks statutory authority to override state law creating the PTI or to operate its own police academy.

The resolution opposes the ILETSB's desire to close the PTI and divert its funding to establish a new academy under ILETSB management.

The House resolves that the PTI should remain open, the ILETSB must abide by existing law without creating unauthorized new powers, and no new police training academies should be created until enrollment and state finances justify it.

The resolution directs suitable copies be delivered to the Director of the PTI and to the ILETSB.
