Honors Sandra J. Mills, who died on November 27, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.

Mills earned a B.S. in sociology from Bradley University, an M.S.W. from University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, and a doctorate in adult education from Northern Illinois University.

Served as lobbyist for the National Association of Social Workers-Illinois Chapter for 17 years beginning in 1991, advocating for the social work profession and human services.

Joined the University of Illinois-Springfield faculty in 1994 as a professor in the Child Family and Community Services Program and Social Work Program, achieving tenure in 2001 and serving as department chair in 2003-2004.

Received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Social Work from the National Association of Social Workers-Illinois Chapter and is survived by her husband Joseph Mills, children Aaron Mills and Lisa Stewart, and siblings.
