• Amends Illinois Insurance Code Section 356w to expand diabetes coverage requirements to include treatment of pain associated with diabetes complications, specifically diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

• Requires group accident and health insurance policies amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date to cover this pain treatment as part of existing diabetes self-management training and education benefits.

• Adds pain treatment coverage to the list of pharmaceuticals and supplies that must be covered when medically necessary and prescribed by a licensed physician.

• Maintains existing coverage limits and requirements for diabetes self-management training (up to 3 visits upon initial diagnosis and up to 2 visits for significant medical changes) and applies the same deductible, co-payment, and co-insurance provisions as other covered services.
