IL SB2537

Creates new crime of "failure to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13 years of age," requiring parents, legal guardians, or caretakers to report missing or deceased children to law enforcement within 24 hours (or 1 hour for children under 2 years old).

Establishes Class 4 felony penalty for failure to report, with exceptions including calls to 911, belief child is in care of another person, acts of God, or caretaker's serious physical or mental impairment.

Requires reporting of child deaths caused by homicide, accident, or suspicious circumstances to law enforcement in the county where the corpse is found.

Adds provision to obstructing justice statute (Section 31-4) making it a crime for parents or guardians to report materially false information to law enforcement or other agencies during investigations of child disappearance or death.

Expands definition of "public official" subject to threatening laws to include social workers, caseworkers, and investigators employed by Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Department of Human Services, or Department of Children and Family Services.
