Internet dating services operating in Illinois must provide all Illinois members with a safety awareness notification listing safer dating practices, including warnings about identity theft, caution with strangers, protecting personal information, and meeting safely in public places.

Services that do not conduct criminal background screenings must clearly disclose this fact to Illinois members in bold, 12-point capital letters through multiple channels (email, click-through acknowledgments, member profiles, or signup pages).

Services that conduct criminal background screenings must disclose this fact and explain that screenings are not foolproof, may give false sense of security, can be circumvented by criminals, and do not cover all criminal records or foreign convictions.

Failing to provide required notices or falsely indicating that criminal background screenings have been performed is declared an unlawful practice under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.

Internet service providers and website hosting services are exempt from violations when merely serving as intermediaries for transmitting messages between dating service members.
