IL SB2573

Amends Section 1-118 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to include catalytic converters in the definition of "essential parts" of registered vehicles.

Essential parts are defined as integral and body parts whose removal, alteration, or substitution would conceal vehicle identity or substantially alter its appearance, model, type, or mode of operation.

Catalytic converters now join other listed essential parts such as frames, doors, engines, transmissions, wheels, and audio equipment.

Essential parts without their own identification numbers automatically adopt the identification number of the vehicle to which they are affixed or installed.
