Licensed physical therapists may provide services without a physician referral if they are at least 21 years old and hold a master's or doctorate degree or have 2+ years of practical experience as a licensed physical therapist.

Physical therapists must refer patients to a physician, dentist, advanced practice nurse, physician assistant, or podiatrist if symptoms suggest services beyond physical therapy scope or if no objective, measurable functional improvement occurs within 90 consecutive days.

Removes from disciplinary violations the prohibition against treating patients without a referral or failing to notify the referring healthcare provider that a patient is receiving physical therapy treatment.

Effective immediately upon becoming law.
