IL SB2979

Amends Section 12-215 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow manufacturers and authorized vendors of oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights to temporarily mount such lights on vehicles for demonstration purposes only.

Requires demonstration vehicles with uncovered lights to display signage on all sides in letters at least 2 inches tall stating the vehicle is out of service or not an emergency vehicle, and prohibits activation of the lights while operated on highways.

Amends Section 12-609 to allow manufacturers and authorized vendors of emergency vehicle equipment and markings to temporarily mount such equipment on vehicles for demonstration purposes, with same signage and operational requirements as light demonstrations.

Applies the same restrictions to demonstration vehicles with emergency equipment: equipment must be covered or vehicle must display out-of-service signage on all sides in 2-inch letters, and equipment cannot be activated while the vehicle operates on highways.
