State Board of Education must coordinate acquisition, adaptation, and development of middle and high school mathematics curriculum models by March 1, 2013.

Curriculum models must include scope-and-sequence descriptions, recommended final year math courses, sample lesson plans, model high school course designs, and training programs in traditional and electronic formats.

Development process requires input from mathematics organizations, teacher and administrator organizations, higher education experts, curriculum and professional development specialists, state policymakers, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and school board and principal representatives.

School districts may choose to adopt or adapt the provided curriculum models instead of developing their own mathematics curricula.

Illinois P-20 Council must report to the Governor and General Assembly on district utilization of the models, and within 4 years assess effectiveness using state mathematics test results and higher education remediation data to guide continuous improvement.
