Appropriates $12,500,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the State Board of Education for the textbook block grant program.

Provides secular textbooks free of charge to students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12 at public schools or State-recognized non-public schools.

Program serves 2.1 million school children and 164,000 educators throughout Illinois.

Serves as the sole source of instructional material funding for many school districts and helps prevent increases in property and other local taxes.

Effective July 1, 2012.
