The Police Training Institute (PTI), established in 1955 at the University of Illinois, is the largest police training academy in Illinois and has trained 64% of officers outside Chicago across all 102 counties.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board (ILETSB) seeks to close the PTI and redirect its funding to create a new academy under ILETSB management, despite lacking statutory authority to operate academies.

The resolution declares the PTI shall remain open and its funding must not be diverted to create a new academy, and prohibits new police training academies until enrollment levels and state finances make expansion reasonable and feasible.

The ILETSB is directed to establish objective professional standards for decertifying courses at police training academies to prevent minor disagreements from disrupting training operations.

Copies of the resolution shall be delivered to the University of Illinois President and Board of Trustees, the PTI Director, and the ILETSB Executive Director and members.
