Joseph Denis Madigan Jr. passed away on May 21, 2012; he was born in Chicago in 1932 and married Carol Ann Malloy in 1958.

Graduated from the University of Notre Dame and served as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy, where he managed retail operations including a grocery exchange on a Navy base in New Jersey.

Led expansion of Madigans, a retail business established in 1881 by his grandfather Denis Joseph Madigan, from its original Madison and Crawford location to multiple stores across the Chicago area including locations in Melrose Park, Lombard, and several shopping malls.

Known as a creative and energetic merchant who pioneered fashionable, price-conscious clothing retail that became standard practice in American retailing.

Survived by his wife Carol of 53 years, three children (Joseph, John, and Maria) with eleven grandchildren, and his sister Nancy Schlacks.
