Philip Harnett Corboy, a prominent personal injury lawyer and founder of Corboy & Demetrio, P.C., passed away on June 12, 2012.

Corboy graduated first in his class from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1949 and practiced law for over 60 years, pioneering personal injury litigation and winning major awards against large corporations.

He served as president of the Chicago Bar Association and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and was chairman of the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation and Special Committee on Medical Professional Liability.

Corboy was recognized as one of the top 100 most influential lawyers in the country by the National Law Journal since 1985 and was listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" since 1987.

He was a major philanthropist who made the largest single gift in Loyola University School of Law's history with his wife and served as a leader of the Catholic Archdiocese's "Big Shoulders" fund.
