Taught preschool at Carmen Elementary School in Waukegan and later opened Joan's Antique Shop specializing in antiques and jewelry

Survived by her husband James Winston Sr., son James Winston Jr., mother Margaret Dorsey, siblings, and extended family

Directs that a copy of the resolution be presented to the Winston family as an expression of sympathy from the Illinois Senate
