Rita G. Harvard of Naperville passed away on June 15, 2012, at age 82.

She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Monmouth College, taught school in Dixon, and served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent at Grace United Methodist Church for 12 years.

She worked as secretary and treasurer for Prince Castles/Cock Robin Companies (1972-1985) and Naperville Creamery Co. (1985-2000), and served on the Fire and Police Board of Commissioners for 8 years.

She received numerous awards including the Gael Swing Award of Meritorious Service from North Central College (where she served as trustee for 28 years), AAUW Woman of the Year, DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the Year, and was the first female president of the Rotary Club of Naperville.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences to her surviving family including her husband John, three children, step-daughters, eight grandchildren, and extended family.
