Illinois Senate expresses mourning for the death of Jack Smith of Waukegan, who passed away on July 8, 2012

Jack Smith was born in Lossiemouth, Scotland and immigrated to the United States at age 8; he graduated from Waukegan Township High School

Worked at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago for 38 years as a department manager and time study engineer before retiring at age 55

Served the Waukegan community in multiple roles including City Treasurer, Alderman, Park Board member, and Port Authority official; served as President of the Lake County Crippled Children's Clinic for 35 years

Survived by his daughter Jacquelyn Couvall, son-in-law George Couvall, grandson George J. Couvall with his family, sister Jean Soderquist, and numerous nieces and nephews
