Terrence N. "Monk" Tiernan of Waukegan passed away on July 19, 2012, at age 74.

Tiernan was a Marine Corps veteran who served three years starting in 1956 and wrestled competitively in the Marine Corps and at the University of Illinois.

He worked as a computer systems analyst for Outboard Marine Corporation, Snap On Tools, and Brunswick Corporation, and owned or partnered in local businesses including Action Office, TnT's Tap, and Badger Egg before retiring from USMEPCOM as Director of Information Management in 2002.

Tiernan was a member of the Lake County Marine Corps League and founding member of The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Automobile Racing and Beer Drinking in America.

The Illinois Senate extends condolences to his surviving wife of 24 years (Margery), his son Michael, and his grandchildren Bryan and James.
