Joe Mayeski of Benton passed away on July 2, 2012, at age 98, having been born December 25, 1913.

Served as a decorated World War II veteran in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945 with the rank of Master Technical Sergeant.

Owned and operated a Conoco/Marathon gas station in West City from 1945 to 1963 and later worked in the Maintenance Department at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his surviving family members, including his daughter Anna Marie Giacone, three grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings.

A suitable copy of the resolution will be presented to the Mayeski family as an expression of sympathy.
