Walter R. Rankin of Herrin passed away on July 9, 2012; he was born January 22, 1936, in Maringouin, Louisiana.

Rankin was employed by Norge (Maytag), General Dynamics, and Johnson Control in Cadiz, Kentucky, from which he retired in 1994.

He enjoyed tool and die engineering work, fishing, reading westerns, and suspense thrillers; he later lived in Sebring, Florida.

Rankin is survived by his daughter Brenda and son-in-law John Brewster, grandchildren Travis and Patrick, stepson Randy Sellars, his brother John W. Rankin, and three sisters with their respective families.

The Illinois Senate expresses its sympathy and mourning for Walter R. Rankin's passing to his family and friends.
