Illinois Senate mourns the death of Wayne E. Van Dyke of Gurnee, who passed away on July 26, 2012.

Van Dyke was born May 29, 1924, and served as a tank gunner and commander in Company B, 41st Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division during World War II, receiving the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, British Military Medal, and Luxembourg's Croix de Guerre.

After military service, Van Dyke earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois and graduate studies from Lake Forest College's Graduate School of Management, then worked as a senior industrial engineer at Johns-Manville Corp. for 26 years.

Van Dyke is survived by his wife Frances of 54 years, three children, five grandchildren, and extended family members.

The Illinois Senate directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Van Dyke's family as an expression of sympathy.
