James Carlin of Algonquin died on August 18, 2012; he was born on March 13, 1943, to Edward and Catherine (Murphy) Carlin and married Carol Barakso on February 19, 1965.

Graduated from Marist High School and St. Peter's College in Jersey City; served in the United States Marines.

Worked in manufacturing systems and IT management, holding positions including director of IT at Baxter Health Care, chief information officer of Baxter Renal Division, and CIO of Gerber.

Active in politics at all levels, volunteering for local political activities and writing about national issues; enjoyed the company of cherished animals.

Survived by his wife Carol, three children (Jay, Mike, and Suzanne), four grandchildren (Kaitlin, Jessica, Ryan, and Natalie), and close cousins; the Illinois Senate expresses sympathy to his family.
