Naval Petty Officer Gunners Mate 2nd Class Dion Rashun Roberts died on September 22, 2012, while serving in Jalaabad, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Roberts was born April 3, 1987, in North Chicago to John and Janice Roberts and graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 2005, where he participated in NJROTC all four years.

Roberts joined the Navy after high school and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences to Roberts' family and friends, including his parents, sister Jaleesa, and extended family members.

The Senate honors Roberts' memory and his ultimate sacrifice in service to his country, directing a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to his family.
