Thomas Vonachen of Delavan passed away on September 11, 2012, at age 77.

Vonachen operated Vonachen's Junction Restaurant in Peoria with his brother and owned several other restaurants in the area.

He served as a patrolman with the Delavan Police Department starting in 1976 and was promoted to chief of police in 1978, serving until his retirement in 2003.

Vonachen received the Illinois Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award and American Legion Meritorious Service Award, and was recognized by President George W. Bush for his dedication to Delavan citizens.

The Illinois Senate extends condolences to his surviving family: wife Janice, three children, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two surviving siblings.
