James P. Hughes Sr. passed away on November 21, 2012, and the Illinois Senate expresses mourning for his death.

Served in the United States Army with the 17th and 82nd Airborne Divisions after graduating college in 1942; earned law degree from DePaul University in 1948 and practiced real estate law.

Founded Wiseman Construction Company in 1961 with Jerry A. Wiseman and purchased remaining shares in 1985; the firm built approximately 35,000 homes across Illinois including south suburbs, Wheaton, Naperville, Plainfield, and other communities, plus apartment buildings, shopping centers, and office buildings.

Purchased and operated the 800-acre Cloonlara Farm near Elburn in 1964, where he grew corn, wheat, and soybeans and raised livestock.

Survived by sons James, Michael, and Sean; daughters Maureen McKanna and Sheila Fitzsimmons; and 13 grandchildren; was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy.
