Allen J. Oehlert of Chatham passed away on December 30, 2012, at age 65.

Oehlert earned a master's degree in political science from Northern Illinois University (1972) and a juris doctor from Southern Illinois University School of Law (1976).

Served as an attorney and law librarian at the Legislative Reference Bureau from 2004 until his death, and previously worked as a partner in a private law practice (1977-2000) and administrative law judge with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board (2000-2003).

Active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Illinois State Bar Association; enjoyed photography, cooking, gardening, canoeing, and hiking.

Survived by his wife Sara, four children, seven grandchildren, and extended family; the Illinois Senate expresses sympathy to his family and friends.
