IL HB0072

Amends the Safe Pharmaceutical Disposal Act to allow licensed pharmacies to display containers for collecting used, expired, or unwanted pharmaceuticals, including unused medications and prescription drugs.

Requires pharmacy disposal containers to only permit deposits, have locked and secured contents, be publicly accessible, and display clear signage indicating expired or unwanted prescription drugs may be disposed of in the receptacle.

Directs the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to adopt rules to facilitate the receipt of medications and prescription drugs at licensed pharmacies under this provision.

Maintains existing authorization for cities, villages, and municipalities to display pharmaceutical disposal containers at city halls or police departments.

Takes effect July 1, 2014.
