HB1006 Summary

• Amends tuition statutes for all Illinois public universities to grant immediate in-state tuition classification to veterans honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States.

• Veterans retain in-state student classification while continuously enrolled toward their current degree if they have registered to vote in Illinois and demonstrated objective evidence of intent to be an Illinois resident.

• Acceptable evidence of residency intent includes at least one of the following: Illinois driver's license, Illinois motor vehicle registration, employment history in Illinois, transfer of major banking services to Illinois, change of permanent address on all records, or other materials relevant to domicile or residency status.

• Applies the same in-state tuition provisions to the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, and Western Illinois University.

• Effective July 1, 2013.
