IL HB1008

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to prohibit local governments, including home rule units, from imposing taxes, fees, or assessments on firearms, firearm attachments, or firearm ammunition beyond the normal sales tax rate.

Voids all county ordinances and resolutions enacted on or after the bill's effective date that impose special taxes, fees, or assessments on firearms, firearm attachments, or ammunition.

Designates this tax prohibition as a limitation on home rule powers under the Illinois Constitution Article VII, Section 6(h).

Preserves existing municipal ordinances that require firearm registration or impose greater restrictions on acquisition, possession, and transfer of firearms.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
